These began rather simply as word tickets on small collages inserted into hand-painted envelopes for our young daughter. These simple word tickets did turn into my yearly solstice project. But year-by-year, created around the December holidays, I also grew more attentive to the collages themselves. Words became scavanged dictionary entries growing into its own artistic offshoot. At the same time I had begun to make boxes for cups [link here] using book-making materials. That pursuit combined with the alphabets resulted in the more sculptural alphabet books about the Twin Towers (A Remembrance Alphabet) and the spiral book about inspiration and depression.
